Scholastic Art Awards Winners Visit

June 14, 2007, New York City.
John Howard Sanden is host to a group of national award winners in the 2007 Scholastic Magazines Art and Writing Awards Competition. John was a jurist in the annual competition. The student winners, visiting New York accompanied by their parents, participated in a ninety-minute workshop on professional portrait painting. The following evening, the young people received their awards on the stage of Carnegie Hall.

Greeting Our Thousands of Artist
Friends Around the World.

John and Elizabeth Sanden

n 1974 we began responding to requests from artists for our palette of oil colors. We answered the requests with a printed sheet of formulas, plus instructions describing how to mix the colors yourself! Then, in 1975, the Art Students League of New York sponsored the first manufacturing of the Sanden palette. In the three decades since, over 50,000 artists all over the world have added our colors to their palettes.

A few years later, we began making instructional videos. Some 10,000 artists have "studied with us" through this medium. Now, with the miracle of the Internet, we anticipate reaching many more artist/friends through our website www.worldofportraitpainting.com, and our new print journal The World of Portrait Painting. Let us know if we can help you. We look forward to hearing from you.

* * * We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend Dorothy Gay Juergens, who was a tireless and extremely talented volunteer in Portrait Institute programs for more than thirty years. Click here to read a tribute to Gay.
